I've pretty much moved my blog to wordpress. I simply like it's format, especially the pages better over there. Plus, as far as I know, there is no limit to the number of pages I can make.

Celtic Knots

I've decided to knit Hubby an afghan. And damn, it's worse then a crochet chevron afghan. Long and boring, until you get to the Celtic Knot cables, now that is interesting. Seems like this is going to take forever. Probably not though, just seems like.

And I've discovered, it gets a lot easier when you put a stitch marking every 10 stitches. I was having a hell of a time keeping the correct number of stitches. One row would be 8 over, so I decrease 8, next row is under blah, so I increase. Much better with the markers.

At the moment I'm going to drop the X-Mas stocking projects. I'm not liking the colors and I have another project I want to work on.

Next project in the Teaching Myself to Knit giant project is Christmas Stockings. I thought that since I have a mantle above a fireplace I have a place for some stockings. Just not sure if we're going to fill them or not, lol. The pattern is this: Ravelry link and Blogger link.

Yep, done I say. The thinner one is the last one made, less worn then the fatter one. I'll get pics of them on me as soon as Hubby comes home.

In the Beginning

There were several attempts! Sheesh! I started the gloves, then had to redo (the yarn was not in a skein and I need a ball winder and swift). * I started the gloves, then had to redo (this time I messed up) rinse and repeat from * twice. Finally I started it and it stuck. Yeah! I made the beginning a bit larger then the pattern calls for, then I tappered it down to the right size. My arms get pretty damn big near the elbows and I want my gloves all the way up there.

My yarn and my needles came! And everything else I was waiting for (a sweater from One Stop Plus and DvD's from Barnes and Nobles). Yeah! Now, just finding the time to sit down and work on my fingerless gloves.

All Quite on the Crafting Front

Right now I'm waiting for my yarn and knitting needles to be delivered. They've been sitting in Anchorage since the 10th! For a while I've been confused as to what could be taking so long but then "A HA!". Monday was Columbus Day, of course no mail movement.

Soon very soon I'll be working on my fingerless gloves.

Done! I'm done with it. It is all finished. Phew. Took long enough. Did the last six rows of squares in a week and a half. Each square is a foot by a foot. The afghan is ten by ten squares making it 10 feet by 10 feet.

Almost row 8

I'm almost done with row 8 of the squares. Decided to lay it on the chair and see how it turned out. I'm thinking I will need at least 10 rows of squares, 8 rows were just a little to short. Sigh. I'm working so hard on this afghan. So very close to being done and then I start working on my next project.

About the socks

I've decided not to do the last sock. That project is finished. I did it to learn how to knit socks, and how to knit in general, now I will move on to other projects that I find more enticing. The Hedgerow fingerless gloves. I'm also thinking a sweater maybe in my future as well, but we will see. I have the afghan to finish and that must come first.

I thought about doing the second sock but I really know all that I want to know. Plus, I don't think I will ever wear them so what is the point? For everyday socks I will just wear store brought. For more fancy look I will probably make my own.

I've done half the row of squares, this means I have 60 squares left to go. In about two rows of squares (8X10) I'm going to pause to have a look. I want to see what it looks like at that size, perhaps if it is big enough I will stop. Probably not though, I will probably continue until it is 10X12.

I finished the first sock. Not certain I'm going to do the second sock. It's too loose around my ankle. It is tight but doesn't hold well and feels like it is going to slip down. Perhaps that is my imagination. I like socks that really mold to the feat. I may do the second sock and experiment on it but I may just move on and forget about it. It was just to learn how to knit, not to actually make socks to wear. That comes later.

Progress

I've made progress on the sock. Just have the foot to finish and that is it, well the toe shaping but that is at the end. Maybe by the end of today? I've already looked at some more sock patterns and found one that look nice, and a set of fingerless gloves to match. I'm thinking that I will finish this sock, work on the afghan, do the next sock, work some more on the afghan, and then start on the fingerless gloves. I hope to finish the afghan but we will see how fast that flows along. By myself watching vids I can get a row and half of squares down.

Knitting socks

Oof! I've completely taken out the socks twice already. It's not that the pattern is difficult, it's just that this is my first time knitting and everything keeps falling off. But I am learning some tricks. The pattern itself is actually too simple. Repeat the same row endlessly, but it is a beginner pattern so that is the way it is suppose to be.

There is 6 different types of squares, differing in how the colors come together. The instructions say to make five of each type of squares. There is a picture given of the entire afghan that shows the order of the squares, instead of a grid the just names the squares. I looked through it, and mapped it out several times, it seems that there is six of squares A, C, E and only four of B, D, F. Ugg.. So I made up my own combination of how the squares go together. I don't know how it will look and come together but it is better the how they did it.

I do intend to make the afghan larger so I'm not certain how I'm going to order it. Perhaps continue the pattern that the squares are in.

So far the pattern itself seems to have no problem. But you do need to pay attention until you get to know the pattern better.
